Franciszek and Leopold Kindermann

Franciszek Kindermann, a famous entrepreneur, was born on 8 November 1837 in Lodz and he died on 12 February 1915. He came from a German family that settled down in Lodz. Franciszek followed his father’s footsteps and established a weaving plant that soon started to generate clear profit. Despite his German origins, he successfully mingled with the Poles and supported social activity in Lodz. His grave is on the evangelical cemetery in Srebrzynska Street.

Leopold Rudolf Kindermann was one of Franciszek Kindermann’s seven sons. He married Laura Feder, a daughter of a very rich manufacturer. As a result, he got a building site in Wolczanska Street as a dowry. In 1902-03 a beautiful villa, designed by Gustaw Landau-Gutenteger, was built there. It still is one of the masterpieces of the art nouveau, not only in Lodz, but also in Poland.
