Karol Gottlob Anstadt
Karol Gottlob Anstadt was born on 13 March 1801 in Saxony. He came to
Poland in the 30s. At the beginning, he set up a small printing house in
Turek. A few years later he moved to Lodz where, in 1840, he established
a percale printing house. Unfortunatelly, due to economic crisis he was
forced to wind up the business. In 1866-67 he established a brewery in
Lodka riverbed. It was the first modern and one of the biggest breweries
in Lodz. After his death on 9 January 1840, his son Ludwik took over the
business. Ludwik Anstadt Ludwik Anstadt, Karol Anstadt’s son, was born in Lodz in 1841. He is known for extending his father’s brewery that today belongs to Browary Lodzkie S.A. In 1881, with his brothers’ help, he designed a private park called „Helenow“ near the brewery. Three years later the park was open for the public. In 1900 Ludwik set up his own brewery business in Sedziowska Street. It is there, where one can admire a beautiful villa. He died in Lodz in 1902.
