industrial development in Poland He was born on 7th January 1805 in Berlin and he died on 21st October in 1869 in Lodz. He is known as a great industrialist and a pioneer of the industrial development in Poland. He came from Saxony where his father run a cotton plant. Ludwik started his career there, however, the business did not go well so in 1828 the Geyers moved to Lodz. He managed to establish a few weaving works that soon developed into huge, profitable plants. In 1835 Ludwik began to build The White Plant that was the most modern and automated plant at that time. Unfortunately, in the 50s the business started to collapse due to bad management, debts and the fire in The White Plant in 1855. As a result, Ludwik Geyer went bankrupt.
