Juliusz Heinzel

Born in 1843, died in 1895.
He was a son of the Silesian master weaver. He started work at Scheibler's factory and soon built his own workshop. He came into fortune in the second half of the 19th century.

His palace and factory were situated in the heart of Lodz - at 104 Piotrkowska Street. Julianow Park owes its name to Juliusz Heinzel. The crowning of his career was the purchase of a landed estate Coburg in Thuringia, as well as the baron's title.

When he died he was transported by train in a special carriage to Lodz. The funeral mass was said in Catholic Church in Sienkiewicza Street. The funeral procession was going through the whole city. He is buried in the family chapel in the catacombs among his relatives. The chapel is the biggest one in catholic part of the Old Cemetery in Ogrodowa Street and it serves as a cemetery chapel to all citizens.

A few years ago, when a baroness Walentyna Heinzel died, her remains were also buried here according to her last will. She lived for 50 years in Germany but she always felt Polish and wanted to be buried in Lodz.
