Robert Biedermann Robert Biedermann was born in 1836 and is known as one of the industry pioneers in Lodz. He came from a German family that moved to Wielkopolska in the 18 century and then settled down in Zdunska Wola and finally in Lodz. In 1863 he took out a lease on a 14-hectare land near Lodka river, where a year later, he established a dyeworks and in 1890 a spinning mill. Robert founded an orphanage in Polnocna Street and he built houses for factory workers in Smugowa Street. After his death in 1899, his sons, Alfred and Robert, continued to run the family business. Robert Biedermann is buried on the Old Cemetery In Lodz.
Alfred Biedermann Alfred Biedermann was born on 14 July in 1866 in Lodz and he died on 29 August 1936 in Germany. However, his grave is on the Old Cemetery in Lodz. Having graduated from a university he worked as a manager in his father’s spinning mill. He was a co-founder and a president of the Society of Electric City Trains (Towarzystwo Kolei Elektrycznych Lodzkich) and the Society of Narrow-gauge Suburban Trains (Lodzkie Waskotorowe Elektryczne Koleje Dojazdowe). He was awarded Order of Poland Restored (Polonia Restituta) (Commander) in recognition of extending national industry. |
